Issue 222 – June 2020

May 29, 2020 in Editorial, Uncategorized

This month we have eight full pages of new album reviews for you and we talk to Eamonn McCormack from Northern Ireland, Robert Jon & The Wreck from the United States and Jamie Williams & The Roots Collective from the Essex Delta, all of whom have new releases. We reveal the recipients of the Form UKBlues Awards 2020 which was announced by video presentation on 17 May. Our featured club is the Wrotham Blues Club in Broadstairs and the sterling work of Geoff Pine, while Shaun continues to blow up a storm and this month, he talks to Mark Cole. The Jam Jar Blues Band introduce themselves.
Since the lockdown we’ve seen many online performances, some quite ingenious, and we continue to report on online concerts/festivals in our usual gig reviews section. Talking of online presentations Fiona Long takes a look at what’s happening from an artists’ point of view and Trev Turley reports your thoughts on gig going in the future. Oh! and Plunger has set up a petition for out of work Live Gig Review Editors!
Our Gig & Festival Guides continue in their new look as we optimistically list the gigs, from July onwards, that are currently hoping to still carry on as we go to press. Artists still need an income, so if you were going to see an artist during the month, get along to their website and buy a CD or a T-shirt.
Until next month, keep healthy and enjoy yer blues at home!
