What’s New In Issue 83

November 4, 2008 in Editorial

Read more..A rising star in the blues-rock world, guitarist and singer Joe Bonamassa is back in the UK, playing at large venues. His latest album is called Live From Nowhere In Particular and is rather good. Trevor Hodgett has interviewed Joe and written about it for Blues In Britain.

Ian McLagan knows a thing about stardom. He was a founder member of The Small Faces, which morphed into The Faces. The keyboard player has taken on singing and front man duties in his own band and he too has a new album Never Say Never. In his interview, also with Trevor Hodgett, he says it is the best album he has ever done.

When I interviewed Jeff Lang last year, he talked to me about an album he had made with Chris Whitley, called Dislocation Blues. We had to hold back that part of the interview for lack of space. Now, another article having had to be deferred until next month, we have the chance to run the piece. You can also hear Jeff Lang talking about recording the album and some of the music, in a pod cast on his web site.

We will have to increase the price of Blues In Britain from 1st January 2009. Anyone wishing to extend his or her subscription before then can do so at the current price. Details are here.

Most of our reviews are written by subscribers to Blues In Britain and they are much appreciated. Anyone can do it. Please name the artist or artists, the venue and the date of the gig or festival, describe what happened and what was good about it. Do not forget to add your name at the bottom! High-resolution photographs are also gratefully received. May I remind all contributors of the deadlines? These apply to Gig Guide information too. We need December contributions by 5th November and January contributions by 1st December. Thank you everyone for all that you do.

As always at this time of year, there is plenty of live blues around and many venues will be holding Christmas parties. There are still come festivals to come. In November we have the Boogaloo Blues Festival at Farnham on 9th, Tenby Blues Festival 14th – 16th and Carlisle Blues Festival 21st –23rd. There is so much good music around. Get out there and enjoy it!
