What’s New in Issue 105

September 1, 2010 in Editorial

Our cover star this month, Ian Jennings, is one of the UK’s most talented bass players, playing both electric and double bass. He was a founder member of the amazing band, The Big Town Playboys, and he plays with touring US musicians, such as Lisa Mills and Mud Morganfield, as well as UK artists. Ian also works as a session player recording with elite bands and musicians; the latest session being on a track for Tom Jones’ new album Praise & Blame. The Playboys album Roll The Dice, which features many of the artists Ian has played with, has been re-released and you could win a copy of it in this month’s magazine competition. Ian is always busy, so I spoke to him on the phone for Blues In Britain.

The wonderful singer Elkie Brooks is constantly on tour, the latest is the year long 50th Anniversary Tour, celebrating her fifty years in the music business; she started very young; she is still going strong, with two albums out this year. She was interviewed by Trevor Hodgett for this issue of Blues In Britain.

We have two e-letters this month. One is from Hans Theessink, a true European who has lived in The Netherlands, Denmark and now Austria. Hans also speaks fluent English and he has toured the UK and the USA and played with many UK and US artists. He is a wonderful guitarist, singer and songwriter. You must see Hans on his solo tour in September.

The other e-letter is from The Earl Gater Band. This five-piece blues band comprises five veteran musicians, based on the South and West side of London. They have just produced an album called Tougher Than Tough. You can read about it here.

As ever, the magazine has reviews of the festivals and gigs around the country this Summer and reviews of some of the many blues CDs we receive every month. Thanks to everyone who contributes!

Check the Blues News and the Gig Guide for upcoming events and get out and support the blues.
